Masterbatch Dosage & Let-Down Ratio Calculator

Build an unambiguous masterbatch recipe from total-blend dosage, base-resin addition, or a target active concentration. Use this as a documented planning estimate, then validate it against the actual machine, mold, resin, and process.

Formula and method

Total basis: masterbatch = total batch x dosage. Base basis: masterbatch = base resin x dosage. Active target: dosage = target final active / masterbatch active content.

Select the exact basis stated by the supplier. Record masterbatch, base resin, total batch, percentage basis, and both ratio definitions with the result.

Inputs and units

Use controlled records, CAD, measured production data, the exact resin data sheet, or machine-maker specifications. Keep the material and time basis with the result.

Worked example

A 200 kg finished batch at 2% of total blend requires 4 kg masterbatch and 196 kg base resin: 50:1 total-to-masterbatch or 49:1 base-to-masterbatch.

What the result supports

This result is a first-pass screen for materials planning. Use it to identify the next record or engineering check, not as a release decision.

Sanity check

Check the unit basis and whether all quantities describe the same cavity, shot, machine, or production window before comparing values.

Important limitation

The calculator does not select a dosage, approve carrier compatibility, or replace the exact technical data sheet, feeder calibration, dispersion check, compliance review, and production trial.
