Injection molding support

Material calculations, starting with density and resin use

Use grade-specific material data for part mass and costing. This focused hub supports the injection molding workflow; it is not a generic material-property database.

Reference density: verify the exact grade

Density is suitable for converting a finished part’s measured or CAD volume to mass. The figures below are manufacturer-published solid-density references, not melt-density values for barrel/shot-volume calculations.

Material gradeDensityBasis
Ultramid B3S Q661 (PA6)1.13 g/cm³ISO 1183; BASF product data
Ultradur B 4300 G6 HR (PBT-GF30)1.51 g/cm³ISO 1183; BASF product data, typical uncoloured value at 23°C

Fillers, moisture, colour, temperature, and grade can change density. Enter the value from the exact material data sheet or a validated part measurement. Do not copy these solid-density figures into the Shot Volume Calculator, which asks for melt density.

Use density with the right physical state

For a finished part, volume multiplied by solid density produces an estimated part mass. For an injection unit, mass divided by melt density produces a volume estimate. These values are not interchangeable, especially for filled, conditioned, or temperature-sensitive grades.
