Injection Molding Product Energy Intensity Calculator
Calculate measured injection molding SEC, average power, kWh per good part, and saleable-mass energy intensity from a defined run.
Formula and method
Total energy = sum of reported energy blocks. SEC = total kWh / injected kg. kWh per good part = total kWh / accepted parts.
Inputs and units
Use revenue-grade or verified submeter readings for the same stable automatic run. Record machine/control, tool axes, barrel heating, cyclic peripherals, variable peripherals, duration, cycles, producing cavities, rejects, part mass, and runner/sprue mass.
Worked example
Machine 14 kWh + tool 1 + barrel 4 + cyclic peripherals 1.2 + variable peripherals 3.8 = 24 kWh. For 1,000 four-cavity cycles with 25 g parts and 10 g runner mass, the result is 0.22 kWh/kg injected (0.218 before display rounding).
When to use it
Use this after the machine and process have reached a stable automatic state and the accepted product meets requirements.
How to interpret the result
Compare SEC only when the product, mold, machine size, process, measurement boundary, and quality basis are documented. Higher saleable-mass intensity than injected-mass intensity exposes runner and reject losses.
Assumptions and limitations
This arithmetic does not certify an EUROMAP test. External fluids such as compressed air, vacuum, and external cooling are outside EUROMAP 60.2 unless separately measured and clearly added.
Validation guidance
Repeat the same boundary and stable-state window. EUROMAP recommends at least five steady drive cycles, 10–15 cycles for heating behavior, at least three minutes, and reproducibility within ±2%.
FAQ
Can this result replace a measured production trial?
No. Preserve the meter, time window, product quality, machine, mold, material, process, and boundary with the result.
